security data modelling

I was wondering if anyone had applied 3D visualization techniques to
analyze security data. By this I mean creating 3D plots of
host/vulnerability matrices to look at vulnerability trends and predict
future vulnerabilities?

I'm trying to sort through data that includes thousands of hosts and
hundreds of different vulnerabilities (results from audits). I've been
contemplating utilizing such technologies to be able to present results
in an understandable format to the client as a 2 dimensional
representation just doesn't scale well.

Was wondering if there is any precedent for this. Thanks!
