Security Basics: Advise on Security audit tool

Hi ,

I'm currently task to look out for a suitable security
audit tool . Wondering if anyone could give me
suggestion s on a good security tool ? 

My environment consists on both unix and windows
machines. 

I've been introduced to the audit tool called
vigilante .. Anyone have any comments about this tool
?
