Security Basics: RE: Retina

I have a big bag of tools and utilities for all sorts of network monitoring
and protection. Retina is one of if not the best, but it is also one of the
most expensive. A lot of the utilities available in Retina can be achieved
through lanGuard GFI.com I think. It has been referred to as the poor mans
Retina.  But the important thing is to no limit yourself to 1 product.

I am currently evaluating Ciscoworks

Generally, reliable and has well designed reports. Somewhat slow but it
won't hinder the LAN as you run it.
Now the Cons... Cost and  Cost. Also I would not rely on a tool but rather
on number of  (tools) open source and commercial if possible.
