Hi Louie,

As far as the back up goes, a master is performed at the
beginning of each month and then every night a differential back up is
performed so that in the event of a restore, we restore the master and
then when we use the differential, it only restores the data that has
changed since the master.

Basically, the master restores a big chunk of it and the
differential restores what missing from the backup.

As far as your last point, I am looking for some software at the
moment. Someone reccomended Drive Image - I like the fact that in 7
you can image a disk even when it is in use. But I have seen many
unfavourable reviews about it. I have also looked in to Acronis True
Image which also looks quite promising, but the server license would
be out of my budget.

Well for use here we back up every day on tapes. my question is why do you do a master back up every month. The info
changes every day would you think that you woudl need that on a current tape?

For me I maintain 3 servers that I have to back up every night. Trust me one them went down and lucky for me i had up
to date info.

Are you looking for software or a better on doing backs in case something goes wrong?

Subject: Disaster Recovery Plan

Although this might be slightly off topic, I was wondering if anyone
could give me some suggestions for some disaster recovery plans. Right
now we are a small place (less than 50 employees total), and I am not
comfortable with the current Disaster Recovery plan (it was created
before I came on board). It basically involves performing a master
backup on tape once a month and then doing a differential backup every
week night. We have 2 sets of differential tapes that we keep off site
and alternate every week, but the masters are not kept off site.

I am working with a very limited budget. Can anyone recommend a good
solution that will ease my worries? Thanks.
