AFAIK, writing all zeros (/dev/zero) or nulls (/dev/null) to a drive will 
stop *most* people from reading what was previously on the drive; but if 
you're concerned about an attacker with large resources it's best to make 
multiple wipes with random data or multiple blows with a sledgehammer.
