As other people have said, you can't really prevent people from telnetting into port 80 and doing a manual HTTP GET.
(Same on port 443, except it's a little difficult to do the SSL by hand).
But to really test your theory, try setting up an FTP server to listen on 443 and see if you can connect to that.
