Per protocol/port bandwidth usage

Does anybody knows a free software application that runs on Linux for
generating per protocol/port bandwidth usage information (graphics or
raw data) ?
By now I *think* www.ntop.org would suit my need. Am I right (anyone
with experience on that)?

Could snort generate such data?
