I suppose the difference lies in the fact that, the scanner forks
separate child for each host to be scanned and hence wins faster than
nmap when it comes to large number of hosts.

Here on my network scanning for port 21 on 65536 hosts with nmap
takes 24 seconds and propecia for the same takes around 4 seconds.

Anyhow still nmap is the scanner of choice :).
