Re: [Without visiting website] Finding out IP address of external interface of web proxy

Thanks for your reply. However, please note that I could not solve my
problem using
tcptraceroute as advised by you. If I use

#tcptraceroute www.website.com 80

it does not help. I used my firewall as the gateway:

# route add default gw 192.168.100.1

# tcptraceroute www.yahoo.com 80

Tracing the path to www.yahoo.com (209.131.36.158) on TCP port 80 (http)

1 f1.www.vip.sp1.yahoo.com (209.131.36.158)

It found out only the IP address of yahoo.com and nothing more.

So what do I do now? Is there any way network protocols can be used in
some way to achieve this? May be use libnet to send some packets to an
outer host and see some reply?

Oops, got confused.... the syntax is "tcptraceroute host port", so it would
be "tcptraceroute www.yourwebsite.com 80".

Thanks for all the replies. Visiting all these websites you pointed,
give the IP address of my external interface. Quite excellent.

I would like to know of a way to use network exploration utilities
like traceroute to determine the route taken by my HTTP packets
throuhg the webproxy to the end host. The webproxy does not allow any
other traffic other than HTTP, so I cannot use traceroute?

So, how do I do this without having to visit website? Is there any
other way? If an existing utility can be used for this purpose? OR if
no, can somebody please explain any concept model using network
protocols that how this can be done?
Thanks in advance.

Hello All

How do I find out the IP address of the external interface of my web
proxy?

To explain a bit further: A user browses web sitting in a LAN
through
the web proxy that allows HTTP. The web proxy is connected to the
LAN
using one interface and it is connected to the outer network using
another interface. Can the user find out the IP address of the outer
interface? If yes, how?

Thanks in advance for any replies.
