One day some bright spark will actually make a sniffer that forwards the 
login packets to another safer host... or even to a bogus host and he 
sniffs them before they get there, just to make it real fun :)
Dont people already do that?  Just route all connections through
the machine you want to pick up the data from.  
Also, sniffing takes quite a bit of cpu on a busy network and if the
 program itself is gonna be busy sending data to other hosts as well,
there's a good chance it will be missing packets and wont keep up.
