Bugtraq: Syslogd and Solaris 2.4

Syslogd and Solaris 2.4

From: Denis Campeau <denis_at_lmu.qc.ca>

Here's one. Maybe it's old news (I haven't been on this list for a long
time...)

Syslogd on Solaris 2.4 core dumps unmistakenly whenever a loghost
receives a log from a machine that is not registered in any name
services (nis, nis+, dns, hosts).

This has been fixed on Solaris 2.5 with patch 103291-02. But the bug
reports (1249320) is a laught. If you have access to it, check it out.
The patch is for Solaris 2.5; there isn't any patch for 2.4. It
specifies "customer claims this was working in Solaris 2.4" heeheehee.
Not! The first workaround suggested are really a riot. "Turn off
syslog".

I'd like to know if any other systems out there a behaving the same way.
