The ''problem'' is already addressed in The teTeX Instalation and
Maintenance Guide. Chapter 3.2 gives some ways to avoid having
a writable ls-R file. For example, if you are paranoid and have lots of
disk space, you can generate necessary files using allcm, allce or
allneded utility.

And don't get excited every time you use find(1) program :)
