environment pointers point to the end of memory, which causes the SEGV's
people have been observing.  I don't see any possible way this bug could
affect security, however.

Nor me.

2.2.13 is however now out officially and including the fix. It fixes several
security holes and the release notes will be out shortly (they were delayed
by something much more important - the rugby)
