Gentoo installation is not as hardcore as it used to be:

even stage3 installation doesn't bother a lot if you are looking for a stable release:   
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-quickinstall.xml
and after it is up and running you wouldn't want to change it with the world.
