While the upgrade will not wipe out the configuration,
it is quite possible that the confiugration will not work. It all
depends on the upgrade path. If you make too big of a jump, your
configuration might still be there, but be unavailable.

Agreed. At least make a text copy so it is easy to reapply if
everything goes south.
