Real answer. IPtables logs using kernel (kern).
You have kern.* going to console so that is why you get your messages on the console.

I and others I know are getting console Firewall traffic and its rather
annoying since we work from the console a lot and not X, these messages
should be going to /var/log/messages (and some indeed do) but instead some
get sent to console and we are clueless as to why.
