Maybe it SUCKS because what he actually had was a damned 
SPYWARE item? Apart from that, it is the best of the "pay 
for" AV scanners unfortunately. If he ran Adaware and Spybot 
at the very least, on his system, he wouldnt have this problem.

Actually the recent versions of McAfee do a pretty good job of
*detecting* Adware.  They don't do a good job yet of *cleaning* adware,
but they at least let you know it's there.

Spybot Search and Destroy is much better.
