Why do you have to use gmail when it is very easy to setup a mail server
On your own personal computer and also setup a jabber server if required
Its your choice what you want to use....
You just forgot one thing : people who knows sysadmin are very rare
compared to the numbers of computers users... Personnaly, I don't
think my Mum would like to nor could setup a mail server, so...
