Honeypots: honeyd 1.5 release

honeyd 1.5 release

From: Niels Provos <provos_at_citi.umich.edu>
Date: Sat, 11 Feb 2006 20:08:54 -0800

Hi everybody,

after the bad news, some good news. I am happy to announce the
release of Honeyd 1.5.

This version contains the following new features:

    * Statistics Collector: A daemon that can process netflow-like
information exported by several Honeyd instances and do computations
on the data - see live data.
    * Improved Subsystems: Improved support for subsystems permits
running more complicated UNIX applications like mwcollect as a
subsystem for Honeyd.
    * Proxy and SMTP subsystems: Example subsystems to simulate open
proxies and mail relays. These subsystems are written with performance
in mind and have no problem in keeping up with a busy network.

See

  http://www.honeyd.org/release.php?version=1.5

for more information.

It also contains an important security fix to make remote detection
more difficult. The security advisory plus patch can be found at:

  http://www.honeyd.org/adv.2006-01

If you have configured Honeyd to check for security fixes, you will
see a security warning and a link to the advisory in the integrated
web server.

The new release can be downloaded from

Have a good weekend,
 Niels.
