UNIONS GET INTO TECHNOLOGY ACT
The American Federation of Teachers wants higher education unions to get
involved in all stages of their institutions' decisions about adopting
technology, including bargaining for things such as additional pay or
release time for preparing televised materials, for participating in
interactive teleconferences and for developing multimedia instructional
packages and CD-ROMs, as well as adequate technical support. The AFT's
higher education department will issue its first report on the implications
of technology in May. (Chronicle of Higher Education 2/10/95 A17)

BATTLE LOOMS FOR NET WRITERS
Microsoft and Novell both plan a March release of word processing
applications that turn text into Web-ready HTML (hypertext markup
language). WordPerfect Internet Publisher for Windows will be a free add-on
to WordPerfect 6.1, as will Microsoft's Internet Assistant for Word.
WordPerfect will also ship Internet Publisher Pro, an Internet access
software package that includes a Web browser and TCP/IP protocol stack.

FEAR OF SUCCESS
Microsoft's chief operating officer says the biggest fear consumer products
companies face in turning to interactive advertising is that they will
actually increase product sales, reports MediaWeek (Feb. 6). (Investor's
Business Daily 2/10/95 A3)
