WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Central Intelligence Agency said Thursday
it had reprimanded six former and current senior officials for their
role in the investigation of former CIA Director John Deutch accused
of mishandling classified information.

CIA Deputy Director Gen. John Gordon formally reprimanded in writing
three officials, "admonished" in writing two others, and "orally
admonished" one current official, the spy agency said in a statement.

The CIA had investigated Deutch after discovering highly classified
material on his home computers that were also used to connect to the
Internet, raising the possibility that an outside hacker could have
accessed the information. There has been no evidence that that
occurred.

Deutch was stripped of his security clearances and has apologized. The
CIA inspector general concluded that the agency could have been more
aggressive in its investigation of the case but that no one had
intentionally impeded it.

"The principal shortcoming in the Deutch matter was that normal agency
procedures for handling and reporting a serious security incident were
not followed," the CIA statement said.
