LONDON: The Mumbai police, in close co-ordination with Scotland Yard,
plan to use computers in a big way to acquire cyber crime
intelligence, tackle crime and deal with the underworld, Maharashtra
Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has said.

"As India is making rapid strides in information technology and
Maharashtra has made some headway in e-governance, we would like to
take precautions against cyber system hackers who could jeopardise the
working of railways, water supply and electricity systems," Bhujbal
told PTI in an interview here.

He said Scotland Yard were ahead of the Mumbai police, who were
generally as efficient as anyone else in the world, in using
computerised fingerprints data to track down criminals.

"Finger prints of criminals and other relevant data are loaded in the
computers and used in tracking down criminals," Bhujbal, who looks
after the home portfolio, said.

Bhujbal, who was here to participate in the World Travel Mart as he is
also in charge of tourism ministry, spent a full day here meeting
senior Scotland Yard officials and visiting various facilities.

He said Scotland Yard inspectors would visit Mumbai to interact with
the Mumbai police in collating cyber crime intelligence, Bhujbal said.

Simultaneously selected personnel from the Mumbai police would come
here for interaction, he added.
