Information Security News: California Man's Computer Used to Send Bomb Threat in India

A California man currently renting a home in India is caught in the 
middle of an investigation into a series of bombs that exploded in India 
this last weekend, according to the Associated Press.

The 48-year-old man hasn't been identified by police and is not 
currently a suspect.

An e-mail, which bore the subject line "Await 5 minutes for the revenge 
of Gujarat," was sent from the man's computer to several Indian 
television stations minutes before 16 bombs exploded in Ahmadabad, a 
city in the western Indian state of Gujarat. Police believe, however, 
that the message likely did not originate from the man's computer and 
that someone else -- presumably a hacker -- simply used his computer and 
Yahoo account to send it. In the message, a group calling itself the 
Indian Mujahideen, claimed credit for the bombings, believed to be 
revenge for Muslim deaths that occurred in 2002 during riots in Gujarat.
