Department Description ASTRO Solutions Engineering is the leading Systems/Product development organization within MOTOROLA supporting the APCO/TIA P25 Public Safety Wireless Communications Standards. P25 compliant products and systems are the primary choice of First Responder agencies at the Federal, State and Local levels of government. These solutions are also a leading choice within commercial and industrial market segments where mission critical communications and rugged, highly reliable equipment are a necessity.
Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations Actively participate and, where appropriate, provide effective leadership as a system engineering professional within the scope of MOTOROLA Private Radio Network Development programs. Responsibilities may include:
• Disciplined development of system, subsystem and/or software requirements specific to Information Assurance aspects;
• Analysis of network, system, subsystem and/or software requirements and development of suitable architecture/design options;
• Preparation of Engineering Feasibility Assessments, Engineering Effort Estimates and/or Engineering Work Plans and Schedules;
• Technical Risk Mitigation through research, modeling, simulation and/or prototyping.
• Preparation of high-level and/or low-level system, subsystem and/or software design specifications;
• Review and Analysis of Engineering Process Performance to drive ongoing improvements to organizational effectiveness;
• Support of design, implementation, test and maintenance of product development assets in accordance with a defined development lifecycle processes;
• Support of design and implementation of detailed system, subsystem and/or software test strategies, configurations and procedures;
• Support of system, subsystem and/or software integration cycles including analysis of results and troubleshooting;
• Support of system and/or subsystem certification cycles including collection and analysis of results;
• Support of and active participation in organizational quality management processes and continuous improvement initiatives;
• Participation in Field and/or Customer issue resolution and support activities as required;
• Lead and/or contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of engineering methods, tools and environment;
• Support of and/or participation in TIA or ETSI standards development processes.
• Occasional Travel will be required;
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Graduate of an accredited university degree program in Electrical, Computer, Software, IP Network and/or Systems Engineering, Information Security/Information Assurance;
• Minimum of 4 years direct experience in supporting various Information Assurance aspects.
• Excellent English language communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) are essential;
US citizenship required.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and schedule individual and group work assignments;
• Demonstrated ability to lead other technical staff in completing work assignments in accordance with defined quality objectives and deadlines;
• Demonstrated ability to measure, analyze and improve personal and organizational methods and processes;
• Demonstrated ability to effectively lead technical teams through changes in processes, methods and tools is an asset;
• Demonstrated knowledge/expertise in areas supporting Information Assurance disciplines: Vulnerability assessment and Compliance monitoring, Network, Platform, Application and Database security, Firewall, VPN, IDS/IPS and HIDS/NIDS technologies, Cryptography, Identity and Access management, Disaster recovery/Business continuity, development of Information Assurance Policies and Standards.
• Knowledge of additional scripting/programming/debugging languages and environments is an asset ( PERL, Microsoft Script Control, COM/DCOM, MFC View Document Architecture);
• Demonstrated ability to work in WINDOWS and UNIX operating environments;
• Demonstrated knowledge/expertise in Network Architectures, Protocols and Programming (IP, UDP, Multicast IP, IGMP, etc.);
• Demonstrated knowledge of Enterprise-level IT systems, IP data networks, IP network security and connectivity gateways;
• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is preferred;
• Demonstrated knowledge/experience with DoD 8500.2 and FIPS 800 standards and certification and Accreditations procedures;
• Manage 3rd party vendor relationships with security solutions providers.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Digital Wireless technologies and protocols;
• Knowledge of TIA or ETSI standards and standards development processes is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze system/software development process performance and identify/execute improvement initiatives;
• Working knowledge of CMM and CMMi Engineering Process Maturity principles is an asset;
• Digital Six-Sigma and Design For Six Sigma Belt designations are an asset;
• Eligibility for licensing as a PE is an asset.
