Nmap Development: NMAP and MAC Addresses

NMAP and MAC Addresses

From: Alan Jones <asj_at_ipa.net>

I was trying out the new NMap 3.55 and coudl not get it to report a MAC address on my local LAN.

I a few variations of

>nmap -v -sS -O -sV -sU -A -p 1-5600

and nmap -A

providing both a local machine name like "asj" and IP address.

The machines I checked were all on the same local LAN, same segment, even same switch.

This is NMAP 3.55 on Windows 2000.

I know you can't get a MAC address when crossiing routers etc, but i had been my understanding that you could get the MAC address for others.

I know the other MAC cross lookup is working on Win32, but it is my understanding basic MAC reporting should work.

Anyone else haivng that problem on Windows?

 thank

Alan
