I believe the original V-E scanning applied to an ASCII terminal,
such as a VT-100 or an IBM 3270. These had buffers of about 2K characters.
(24 lines of 80 characters each) A current X-Term would have a completely
different emission...
It would be much more difficult to intercept, but then again:
