Nmap Development: OS detection

OS detection

From: R Anderson <listbox_at_pole-position.org>

Has anybody tried putting Ofir Arkin's xprobe OS-detection into nmap?
Would there be any technical or political problems? Wouldn't it be worth
the effort?

I have this vision:
- Add xprobe tests as nmap's test number 8, 9, 10 etc.
- If possible and applicable, merge the databases to some extent.
- The database matching should be compatible with older entries (without
xprobe tests)
- As time goes by, more complete entries will fill the database

It would probably be the ultimate OS-detection for quite some time. It
may also break grounds for adding even more tests in the future, without
inventing the wheel.
