If anyone has trouble getting their nmap on windows to find adapters, run nmap --win_trace --win_list_interfaces -d -d, which will display the adapter list as nmap sees it and much of the thinking along the way.

I really do not have the experience/expertise to tell why it is not
working for you. There are command line options for specifying the
adapter to use. Like -S for the IP and -e for the device name. I've
never had to use them so i don't know how -e works under wintendo, but
maybe someone on the list will be able to help you.
The URLs for the nmaps I built with .NET and which work on my XP and w2k
machines (except 1 system) are here:

http://www.cell2000.net/~users/tangui/nmap-2.54BETA31.bin.D.zip
Note: it might be wise to scan these files with an anti-virus program
since I don't own such a thing and can not guarantee them being virus
free.
