Nmap Development: nmap 3.0 and MSN/ICQ detection ?

hi all,

sent this before but am afraid it was moderated OR incorrectly adressed.


is it possible to check out what's behind a specific open port ? like I
see an open port. is it ICQ or MSN open there ?

pointers to documentation would be fine too. (and code of course :-)
