Nmap Development: Nmap & WinPcap 3.1 follow-up

Nmap & WinPcap 3.1 follow-up

Gisle, Fyodor, & Others

I watched the message thread "Nmap Development: Fix for WinPcap 3.1" back in Feb 2004 at
http://seclists.org/lists/nmap-dev/2004/Jan-Mar/0077.html

I also have been watching other discussions on the WinPcap list. Due to some of my confusion I asked a few questions over there. Gisle who wrote some patches currently slated for Nmap 3.51 responded with some good thoughts in:
http://www.mail-archive.com/winpcap-users@winpcap.polito.it/msg01703.html

However someone working on the WinPCap also responded with a suggested clean function suggestion that is available in both WinPcap and libpcap. I don't know if it would require rewiring a fair amount of code, but it sounds like their suggestion might be the longer lasting solution and not have some of the platform specific issues.

Here is their response with suggestions:
http://www.mail-archive.com/winpcap-users@winpcap.polito.it/msg01700.html

My original question to the WinPCap Group:
http://www.mail-archive.com/winpcap-users@winpcap.polito.it/msg01697.html

I was not trying to stir up any trouble, but wanted to see if I could help find the best solution. Unfortunately it has been so long since I have done any coding that any code I might attempt in this area would not be worth much.

hope this helps.

Alan
