I've just compiled it and "make install"ed and this is what I get:
""
[root_at_localhost nmap-3.84ALPHA1]# nmap -P0 192.168.1.1

Starting nmap 3.84ALPHA1 ( http://www.insecure.org/nmap/ ) at
2005-08-11 22:01 CEST
Warning: File ./nmap-services exists, but Nmap is using
/usr/local/share/nmap/nmap-services for security and consistency
reasons. set NMAPDIR=. to give priority to files in your local
directory (may affect the other data files too).
Failed to determine the netmask of ! : No such device
[root_at_localhost nmap-3.84ALPHA1]#
""

Ok with the warning, but why "Failed to determine the netmask of ! :
No such device" ???

Running: Linux Fedora Core 4 2.6.12-1.1398_FC4 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
Cheers.
