Hi, in my network I have a separate ipsec vpn box. The default router sends
icmp-redirects to all clients that want to reach the network on the other
side of the VPN.
When trying to ping sweep (nmap -sP) the subnet on the other side of the vpn
network, nmap things every adress on the other side replies since it takes
the icmp redirect (sent from the main router and redirects clients to the
vpn box) as a positive echo response (my interpretation of it). When setting
a proper route on the client doing the ping sweep it works correct.
Sorry if this is a known bug but I could not find any documentation of it.
Regards, Lars Berntzon
