Nmap Development: bug report: zenmap and Windows 2000

I tried to install NMAP & ZENMAP on several windows 2000 SP4 machines.
 
There seems to be a common problem with both vanilla NMAP and the GUI.
 
1) when trying to use nmap using CLI, I get an "unable to find an entry point  named getaddrinfo in DLL WS2_32.dll" 
2) when trying to use zenmap, all menu items are white, and text area are white-on-white. (being almost unreadable).
Winpcap has been installed separately (taking the 4.0.2 binary from winpcap.org), and other software (notably, 
wireshark) work flawlessy.
 
Currently found on 3 machines.
