That is not useful:

[brolin () brolin-V13] [0] [5] ~/
$ /cygdrive/c/Windows/System32/PING.EXE -t

Pinging with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out. has been allocated. is pingable and it is a valid IPv4 address. That does not solve the problem you mentioned.
