That is because nmap is using your /etc/services and maps the services from
that file.
I have a very good updated list of services ranging from 1 to over 20000.
Ports above 1024 are of course user defined but this file lists the most
common.
You can of course very easily rewrite nmap to use a specific file or the lazy
way, just copy the file to your /etc/services.
I will not mail it out on the list (the file is pretty big) but if this is of
interest, maybe Fyodor could create a place on insecure where it could be
held? I'm sure that there must be such a list somewhere on the Internet but I
have no link.

Hello.
Why doesn't nmap-2.00 recognize SSH? If I portscan mye computer here,
you'll get this report;
21 open tcp ftp
22 open tcp unknown
53 open tcp domain
80 open tcp http
110 open tcp pop-3
113 open tcp auth
119 open tcp nntp
As you can see, it recognizes all services except ssh (port 22). I can't
quite see the reason for this?
