A good alternative if you're running NT at least is to try VMWare
(http://www.vmware.com), it will allow you to create a Linux system running
within WinNT (and vice-versa.) NMAP runs just fine under Linux running under
VMWare on Windows...
Routing may well be a problem though depending on how many addressable IP's
you have, remember you will need two addressable IP's for Linux(via VMWare)
and NT running simultaneously.

Another alternative would be to use Trinux - which runs entirely in RAM.
Check it out at http://www.trinux.org
