I find Saurik (Jay Freeman)'s nmap+V (version identification / banner
grabbing) patch quite useful. Unfortunately it has not been kept up to
date with current nmap releases. I've tried to contact him a couple of
times in the past month or two and gotten bounces or silence.
The other day I banged out what might be a working update of the nmap+V
patch against nmap v3.00. It's in the "Oh shit, it compiled, ship it!"
state, although I've actually used it somewhat heavily in the past few days
and it's been holding up OK so far. If anyone is interested (especially
anyone who wants to bughunt/fix it ;) it's available at:
http://www.theaimsgroup.com/~hlein/haqs/#nmap
This adds +V updated to 3.00, and also a CSV-output option (-oC) similar to
the machine-output mode.
Whether based on Saurik's implementation or not, I think banner grabbing
and/or service identification would be a great thing to add to nmap.
</featuritis>
Thanks,
