I second Herndon's sentiments. I am biased because I sit on the EC Council continuing education board, but even before
I joined that I was impressed with the content and depth of the CEH certification. It really requires a broad
knowledgebase to be successful on the exam.

You have to start somewhere, and either of these two would be good starting points.

Ive looked at CEH and security+ and just laughed.

If you are laughing at CEH, then I think you have become a bit jaded! The CEH cert is not easy, and is fairly
well-respected in my experience. There are no certs that will be universal.....there is always some staleness in every
certification due to the nature of the necessary standardized testing, leadtime for development etc. But the CEH,
IMHO, is one of the better ones if you are after a technical cert. Otherwise, just commit some high-profile break-in,
serve your time, then use that street cred as your certification. Good luck with that.
