When contracting with a 3rd party to conduct a pen-test we require the
following to be stipulated:

1) The names and cellphone numbers of the specific individuals
performing the test;
2) IP addresses from which they will be conducting the test;
3) We specify the timeframes (both overall duration as well as limits
on time-of-day in some cases) during which the testing will be
4) That in the event they encounter something which may cause a
problem or disruption they are to stop and immediately contact us to
discuss how to proceed.

The details of the engagement may not be disseminated to all of our
internal network/operations staff but we absolutely require this
information from the contractor/vendor.

I'll normally go back and forth about various issues with the
pentester(s) during the course of an engagement.

When we are doing pentesting using internal staff we maintain the same
terms of engagement with a designated technical manager being
responsible for representing the group being tested.
