Clinton Relaxes Crypto Exports

WASHINGTON -- The Clinton
administration is expected to announce
greater freedom for US firms to export
privacy-protecting encryption products
Thursday afternoon.
The decision is part of what a source
calls "three pillars" of a new White House
policy that also includes efforts to
protect US critical infrastructure and
additional powers granted to federal law
enforcement.
The announcement is scheduled to take
place at the White House at a 3 p.m. EDT
press conference that will include
Attorney General Janet Reno, Defense
Secretary William Cohen, and Commerce
Secretary William Daley.
