Herbert Simon, winner of the 1978 Nobel Prize in Economics and a
pioneer in the fields of artificial intelligence and cognitive
psychology, died this morning at UPMC Presbyterian. He was 84.

Dr. Simon died of complications that developed following a surgical
   procedure in January.

His fascination with human decision-making was the driving force in
his career. His theory of "bounded rationality," for which he won the
Nobel, was that people don't necessarily make the best, most rational
choice of goods or services, but select the ones that seem good enough
   to meet their needs.
