POLITICAL WEB SITE AUTHORS KEEP IDENTITY SECRET
(Mercury News) When Essex County Executive James W. Treffinger dropped out
of the U.S. Senate race on April 22, The Associated Press put a
one-sentence "news alert" out on its wires at 2:08pm. But for New Jersey's
political junkies, it was old news. The anonymously operated Web site
politicsnj.com had about 100 words describing Treffinger's withdrawal at
1:40pm. It was the latest soup for an e-publication that in a little more
than two years has grown to become mandatory reading for the political
class in New Jersey by providing a virtual clipping service for the morning
newspapers and a combination of tips, gossip, and opinions.
