Hi,

I am a newbie to Snort IDS/IPS application. Please help me understand the
difference between IDS and IPS. *Can snort be configured only as IPS instead of
IDS? *

yes, snort can be an IPS or an IDS... the difference is if snort only alerts or
if snort blocks/drops... "inline" is the keyword for snort IPS... normal
operation is as IDS...
