And even in the physical protection market, how much security does
a widget need? One fat guard? Ten Armed guards?
Securicor and Vale seems to be doing very nicely....

| Actually, it will be true. Eventually it will be a highly commoditized
| business to "guard" network security. Of course the people who design,
| install, and maintain the security systems, especially high-security or
| custom systems get paid significantly more than the guards.

| Of course this commodity model depends on the maturity of an
| industry. The
| physical premises to guard don't change dramatically anymore.
| They may get
| taller or wider or build from somewhat different materials, but
| all the same
| principles still apply. I believe in network security we are
| nowhere near
| that maturity level yet, and the foundations on which we must base our
| network security change daily--as often as the network. Until
| that settles
| down, we will remain an immature industry demanding highly skilled and
| adaptive personnel.
