Not the current version:

[bero () spock ~]$ rpm -q bzip2
bzip2-1.0.1-4
[bero () spock ~]$ bzip2 `perl -e 'print "A" x 8192;'`
'AAAAA[...]AAAA' is suspiciously (more than 1024 chars) long.
Try using a reasonable file name instead.  Sorry! :-)
