You are sending a SIGQUIT, where the default action is to
create a core dump. This is not an error, but "documented"
behaviour.

Not vulnerable:
-Linux

Then it's either broken, or ctrl-\ is not bound to SIGQUIT,
check 'stty -a' and the cchars there.
