Anyone know of a good NAT server and proxy server (either together or as separate packages) for Linux?
Take a look at IP masquerading, which is nowadays standard in the Linux kernel (I think there is a newer version now, called "ipchains" or similar). There are "HOWTOs" which describe how to set up what you want. It'll do NAT and packet filtering, and it has some special modules to do FTP and a few other oddities. You might want to use proxies for FTP, etc., in which case take a look at the TIS firewall toolkit. BTW Linux also has transparent proxying capabilities, and it would be simple to rewrite the TIS stuff to take advantage of it (assuming no-one has already done so). Cheers, Frank O'Dwyer.
