RE: Reverse Proxy with one NIC

Am I the only one that thinks this is a little crazy?

"MS Proxy can't do reverse proxy with one NIC? Oh, that's OK, BorderManager
can!"

"Reverse Proxy" is pure marketing. Proxy servers just do what they do -
cache web pages and give them to people who want them. A "Reverse" proxy is
giving _your_ pages to other people, instead of getting _their_ pages for
you. Big Deal.

I think the confusion possibly comes from the (erroneous) belief that MS
Proxy doesn't work without two NICs. This is true in some cases, but it
works fine as a simple HTTP proxy (or even a reverse HTTP proxy, if you want
to get _really_ tricky) with just one NIC.

One word of warning though - only skillful MCSE types will be able to tell
the difference between your single-NIC reverse proxy and a normal one.

Cheers,

I believe Novell's BorderManager will do that.

MS Proxy requires 2 NICs to setup reverse proxy. Can Netscape
or other software allows only one NIC to setup reverse proxy?

Any pointers are welcome.

Thanks,

Ivan
