Nmap Development: Instructions for obtaining free Apple OS X developer tools

Instructions for obtaining free Apple OS X developer tools

From: Fyodor <fyodor_at_insecure.org>
Date: Fri, 19 Sep 2003 15:39:15 -0700

I have been receiving a lot of mail from Mac OX X users who get this
error when they try to build the souce Nmap release:

configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH

This means that they don't have a working compiler. Apparently OS X
does not ship with one. The good news is that it is available for
free from Apple. Here are some instructions Brian Hatch sent me:

        Go to connect.apple.com
        Join ADC (Apple Developer Connection)
Fill out forms (several) to create an account
Eventually you'll get to a page that allows you to
buy a level of support / cd media / etc.
Ignore it, go back to connect.apple.com
        Log in
Hit the 'Download' link on the left
        Go to 'Developer Tools'
Download the most recent Dev Tools and install.
Download the most recent Dev Tools Updates and install.

You should be good to go at that point.

Cheers,
Fyodor

PS: You guys have been submitting _tons_ of new service fingerprints.
Excellent! There are more than a thousand (!) in the pending queue.
I'll try to integrate them this weekend and then do a 3.46 release.
There are also a few bugs (particularly the --with-openssl=dir
configure directive and "broken pipe" errors) that will be fixed at
the same time.

Cheers,
-F
