Tony,

It is often difficult to find CBT stuff for highly technical courses.
For instance, unix being the kind of OS it is and the very many switches
and command combinations, scripting etc, it very difficult to get one
CBT that will give this info. The CBT on CD for instance is prepared to
run on Windows platform, and UNIX is another platform which takes
thousands if not millions of code to simulate a UNIX environment on
Windows. You might find CBT for the likes of MS powerpoint but not some
of your listed items. Apparently a good number of the courses have many
similarities when compared to unix. You are not lucky!

These leaves you with either attending the classes of the courses that
you are interested or actually getting some DIY book to read the
details.

I will consider it a good thing to get some introductory training that
will give you a good intro of what there is and then get on the
internet/a good book from O'Reilley/SAMS/QUE or any other publisher and
get started to look for what you really want. A search on Amazon.com
will give a list of books that can help. Seek advice also from
practising friends to give you tips and best sources of info and life
will be a little easier.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Maranga

Subject: Self Paced Security Training

Hi,

Can anybody recommend a good SELF PACED CBT on CD(s) or Web Based
Training?
I am interested in taking some advanced level security courses on
UNIX,
Win2k, firewalls, vulnerability assessments, firewalls, networks, etc.
I
just finished taking the SANs UNIX self paced course.... and my biggest
criticism of it was..it was not interactive enough for me. It was like

there was this secretary reading off the course material over the
internet
and you had the same material in a pdf document in front of you. Where
is
the creativity?...I mean...I can read the PDF document....why do I need
her
to read it off for me???!!.

I am looking for a training course that is very technical, creative and
rich
in multimedia training concepts....like little training clips, inactive
"labs", cool graphics to explain complex concepts. variety of testing
methods, good documentation, etc. I have looked at Global Knowledge and
it
looks like it might fit the bill...but I am not sure.
